The Process
The purpose of the video was to develop a brand story for Michi. In particular, we derived inspiration from Netflix’s Chef Table. We wanted to emulate the utmost elegant cooking process the program embraces. In contrast to many cooking shows, we wanted to veer away from well-decorated kitchens. As a result, we opted to film the entire video against black. The reasoning was to create a set that was, in essence, floating in space. The void would allow for the chefs and the cooking to be the centerpiece. Also, it would let the colors of the ingredients be vibrant.
Throughout the day it was a balance of the chefs perfecting the dishes and our crew filming. In order to make this project stand out, we set the visual goal to capture moments in a dynamic way. We used our Kessler Crane to film aerial shots and any shots that needed long sweeping motions. Meanwhile a Dana Dolly provided more controlled, smaller movements. Furthermore, we used a turntable to film shots of the completed hero dishes.
